Industry has shown an appetite for opportunities to celebrate and promote the electricity supply industry (ESI) despite the continued uncertainty caused by the Covid-19 outbreak.

Thanks to this industry support, Connexis is excited to be preparing for the return of two key events in 2022.

Girls with Hi-Vis® (GWHV) is back this June to open the eyes of high school girls to the opportunities in infrastructure careers.

The challenge this year is to build on the momentum of 2021, which was our busiest and best-attended season to date. Last year 23 workplaces opened their doors to 539 students from 64 schools in 11 regions around the motu.

The goal for 2022 is for even stronger schools’ engagement (600+ students) and greater regional outreach.

Girls with Hi-Vis® 2021 had the highest attendance ever with a total of 539 students taking part

We are encouraging participating employers to use their networks to promote their events and get students in their local communities involved.

If your business hasn’t signed up to host a GWHV open day, you have until 31 March to register. Or contact us to find out more and register your interest for next year.

For over two decades, Annual Connection has been bringing the ESI together to connect, compete, and collaborate. This three-day ESI event comprises line mechanic and cable jointer competitions, a Suppliers’ Expo, and an Excellence Awards dinner.

Online awards meant a fitting celebration for last year’s top trainees

The Annual Connection event team did a quick pivot last year to make sure the Connexis Industry Excellence Awards could go ahead.

The result was a night to remember. Infrastructure Minister Hon Grant Robertson, as keynote speaker, was joined by Connexis director Kaarin Gaukrodger, Te Pūkenga chief executive Stephen Town, and a host of industry players committed to skilling up their industry.
